The featured video of this month starts a UNU-WIDER interview series in which researchers from our global network answer questions on hot development topics.
The first interview in this series is with Professor Lant Pritchett from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University who works with UNU-WIDER on the ReCom - Research and Communication on Foreign Aid Project under the Governance and Fragility theme.
The interview was conducted during his visit to Helsinki to deliver a presentation titled 'It’s a Deals World: The Dynamics of Capitalism with Weak Institutions' at a joint UNU-WIDER and HECER seminar. In the interview Professor Pritchett discusses the differing operational dynamics of rules and deals based societies, how to use development funds efficiently, the relationship of economic growth and education, capability traps, isomorphic mimicry in development cooperation, and aid effectiveness.
