Fourth training on MOZMOD

A tax-benefit microsimulation model for Mozambique

Fourth training on MOZMOD – a tax-benefit microsimulation model for Mozambique

This online workshop was the fourth training event on the MOZMOD model, organized by UNU-WIDER, the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI), Ministry of Economics and Finance, Mozambique, and ILO Mozambique. The participants were members of the Government of Mozambique, including officials who had attended one or more of the previous MOZMOD workshops held in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The main purpose of the training was to provide a practical overview of the MOZMOD model, including recent updates and next steps in its development, and to facilitate discussion on how the model could be used within the Government to formulate and evaluate policy reforms.

Several hands-on exercises and examples allowed participants to learn how to navigate and interpret the MOZMOD user interface, run the model, implement policy reforms, and interpret the results. The group also participated in updating the model via the inclusion of the new tax and benefit system in 2020, which allowed rich discussion on details of the various policies included in the model.
