Workshop: 'The Political Economy of Clean Energy Transitions’

The two day workshop consists of a series of presentations and meetings in which the research teams discuss their work in progress.

UNU-WIDER and the Joint Institute for Strategic Energy Analysis (JISEA) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) hold a workshop with researcher involved in the  Political Economy of Clean Energy Transitions project in the NREL premises in Colorado on 27-28 August.

The two day workshop consists of a series of presentations and meetings in which the research teams discuss their work in progress. The purpose is to facilitate discussion among researchers in order to identify and then develop certain themes that will then run through the project.

The project will culminate in a book that will be used by global research community and decision makers. It will provide a global snapshot of the political economy of the transition to cleaner energy sources and consider how decision-makers might navigate frequently conflicting interests as a clean energy transition unfolds. The volume will be edited by Douglas Arent, Executive Director of JISEA; Channing Arndt, UNU-WIDER Senior Research Fellow; Mackay Miller, member of Market and Policy Impact Analysis Group; and Finn Tarp, Director of UNU-WIDER.

The Political Economy of Clean Energy Transitions project will contribute to an enhanced understanding of how political economic factors influence the transition to clean energy. This understanding will facilitate energy transitions that will generate very large environmental and economic benefits, particularly over the long run.
