UNU-WIDER welcomed Finnish UN field service group

The Finnish United Nations field service contingent visited UNU-WIDER in July as part of their yearly get-together, organized this year in Helsinki. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the Institute and its work in developing contexts, where most members of the group have spent their careers.

He made particular note of the importance of high-quality data for dealing with ongoing challenges that have economic implications for developing countries, such as climate change and social protection mechanisms.

Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director (Management) Laura Londén also spoke at the event, reflecting on posts she had taken in the field. She as well gave a review of the work on women’s reproductive rights and family planning, which is central to the work of her organization, the United Nations Population Fund.
