Parallel session
Extractives for development

Book - Extractive Industries: The Management of Resources as a Driver of Sustainable DevelopmentMany developing countries are rich in natural resources, giving them opportunities to use their mineral wealth to achieve economic transformation and poverty reduction. Yet many fail to invest their resource rents effectively. Consequently, economies remain untransformed and economic growth continues to be narrow in its benefits.

How can the extractives sector (oil & gas, and mining) be best used to achieve sustainable development? (in the context of a world shifting from fossil fuels to low-carbon pathways). This session explores the issues based on ongoing UNU-WIDER work on extractives and development.
