Book Chapter
A Growth Collapse with Point Resources

Bolivia

This chapter examines the growth collapse in Bolivia in the mid-1980s. It is shown that a series of factional governments pushed the mineral-driven Bolivian economy into the staple strap development trajectory since the early 1960s. Bolivia can realise new economic opportunities if its government adheres to the basic principles of environmental and natural resource accounting, and maintains market discipline. These can be achieved through a consensual democracy.
