Large Resource-Abundant Countries Squander their Size Advantage

This chapter examines the growth collapses in Mexico and Argentina in the 1970s. The protectionist policies of both countries designed to force industrialisation weakened economic resilience and squandered their size advantage against smaller resource-abundant countries. Both countries fell into the staple strap, and distorted their economies so that competitive industrialisation stalled.
