This session will be in Spanish with English translation available. This special event, lead by Oskar Nupia, will engage in a conversation regarding regional development and the Paz y Región programme from the University of Ibagué.

Oskar Nupia | Chair

Oskar Nupia is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics of the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota, Colombia. His research focuses in two fields, Political Economics and Public Economics. He studies voters’ and politicians’ behavior in different democratic institutional contexts and the efficiency and welfare properties of these behaviors. He also studies the political economy of public resource allocation and the welfare properties of public policies. Currently, he directs the programme "Economics, Peace and Region" where students are able to work on economic analysis and implementation of public policy in small municipalities of the Country. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Geisler Dayani Rojas Forero | Presenter

Geisler Dayani Rojas Forero is an International Bussiness Administrator from the University of Ibagué. M.B.A from Universidad Externado de Colombia and Operations Management certificate from Enae Business School. He has developed more than 15 courses in development, social innovation and education. Currently, he is the director of Paz y Región at University of Ibagué. Researcher at Universidad y Desarrollo Regional (Unidere) group, lecturer of Economics Faculty and consultant in social responsibility for bussinesses.

Maria Ximena Figueroa Olaya | Presenter

María Ximena Figueroa is a Woman, Mother, Weaver and Indigenous from the Pijao ethnicity. Professional in International Business Administration and co-founder of "Red de Mujeres Chaparralunas por la Paz", an organization that advises peasant communities, armed conflict victims, indigenous, and afro populations. Her work has focused on human rights defense.

César Vallejo Mejía is the former dean of the University of Ibagué and the former co-director of Banco de la República.

Gabriela Vargas | Presenter

Gabriela Vargas is a former student and member of Paz y Región.

Beatriz Valencia | Presenter

Beatriz Valencia is the former mayor of Murillo, Tolima.
