Economy-wide impact analysis using a pre-prototype 2015 Social Accounting Matrix for Myanmar

A training event on using economy-wide impact analysis with a pre-prototype 2015 Social Accounting Matrix for Myanmar was delivered for 13 policy analysts of the Ministry of Planning and Finance group of public sector institutions in Myanmar.

CSO in collaboration with UNU-WIDER has recently completed a 2015 Pre-Prototype SAM for Myanmar. As part of the workshop led by Dirk Van Seventer, participants were introduced to Input-Output (IO), Supply-Use Table (SUT), and the SAM data and multiplier models based on them. Altogether 13 policy analysts of the Ministry of Planning and Finance group of public sector institutions, including the Planning Department, Budget Department, Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Department, the Department of Labour, and the Central Bank of Myanmar attended. The week-long session combined lectures with hands-on computer-based modelling exercises. At the end of the workshop, the 2015 Pre-Prototype SAM for Myanmar was used to examine contemporary questions of policy-relevance.

This workshop was held as a part of the ‘Towards Inclusive Development in Myanmar’ programme, a collaboration between the CSO, UNU-WIDER, and Copenhagen University.
