Transforming informal work and livelihoods — authors' workshop

On 23 October 2020, UNU-WIDER’s Transforming informal work and livelihoods project will hold an authors’ workshop online via Zoom.

The workshop will bring together researchers from various disciplines to present their work to date on the composition of employment and transitions in informal work, with a particular focus on labour transitions and changes in work statuses and livelihoods based on panel data on informal workers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

The workshop will facilitate discussion on the early draft chapters for an edited book volume following from the request for research proposals launched by UNU-WIDER in May 2019, providing participants with an opportunity to share initial results, gather feedback, and consider areas for research advancement.

Part of UNU-WIDER’s 2019–23 work programme, the research project aims to address the existing knowledge gaps on the causes of informality and the most effective mechanisms to reduce informality, providing evidence for better policymaking and enhancing the livelihoods of those in informal work.
