UNU-WIDER Symposium - The political economy of social protection in developing countries

UNU-WIDER is organizing a 3-day symposium on the political economy of social protection systems in developing countries in Mexico City, on 8-10 February. The symposium is part of  'The political economy of social protection systems' component of the project ‘The economics and politics of taxation and social protection’, which takes an innovative and integrated approach to the study of taxation and social protection systems in developing countries.

During the symposium, researchers from different fields of study will present and discuss their work-in-progress. As part of this work, a series of publications will be produced in a leading academic journal.

This research project is multidisciplinary, bringing together over 40 researchers around the world from economics and political science. The research project also aims to build bridges between senior and early-career researchers currently working on, or interested in, issues related to the political economy of social protection.
