Research Fellow Smriti Sharma’s article on gender equality in India picked up

An article on gender equality in India written by UNU-WIDER’s Smriti Sharma is getting international attention. The piece, originally published in The Conversation, has been picked up by the US edition of The Huffington Post — pointing to global interest in the issue. 

Sharma writes in the article about the pervasiveness of discrimination against women in India, and the evidence for affirmative action as an effective policy response. Women in the country continue to face challenges in accessing the labour market and are increasingly the victims of crime.
