UNU-WIDER book informs Forbes article on the future of extractives

Our 2018 open access book, Extractive Industries: The Management of Resources as a Driver of Sustainable Development, was recently referenced in a Forbes article on reducing carbon emissions.

The article, written in response to the UN Environment report finding that extractive industries now account for half of the worlds total global carbon emissions, asks why the mining industry hasn’t become more environmentally friendly.  

The article refers to the findings from Extractive Industries that point to weak governance as a pinch point in the process of greening the industries, highlighting that even when environmental regulations and laws are in place they are often ignored, not enforced or misused.
