CALL FOR PAPERS | IEA-WIDER joint panels at the 2022 WIDER Development Conference in Bogota

The International Economic Association (IEA) and UNU-WIDER will co-host two joint sessions during the 2022 WIDER Development Conference, to be held (on-site) in Bogota, Colombia, on October 5-7, 2022, in partnership with Universidad de los Andes (UNIANDES).

The conference will bring together specialists from around the world to discuss, analyse and understand the latest broad-based research on inequality – covering topics that including, but not confined to, inequalities that affect individuals or population groups across many dimensions of wellbeing (income, labor market outcomes, education and health). The conference aims to discuss the old persistent inequalities as well as the new challenges produced by the Covid-19 pandemic or inequities associated  with climate change or technological progress.

The conference will provide a forum to discuss innovative, theoretical, and empirical research and its policy implications. The event will consist of plenary sessions with two keynote speakers (Raquel Fernández, New York University and Chico Ferreira, London School of Economics) – as well as various parallel sessions organized by key international or regional institutions. A policy event will connect the academic and policy debates to find the necessary synergies for transformative research.

The IEA is proud to partner with UNU-WIDER to increase the reach of this event to researchers from all around the world.

We seek papers in the broad area of technology and labor market inequality. Topics that may be relevant in this area include: The effect of new technologies on labor markets in developing countries, the changing task content of jobs and the relationship with earnings inequalities, the role of automation in creating or displacing jobs, the implications for trade and growth, and policy responses to mitigate the inequality-inducing effects of technological change.

The deadline for paper submissions is February 15, 2022.

Decisions on submitted papers will be emailed by March 15, 2022.

We prefer complete drafts, but we will also consider extended abstracts.

Submissions will be evaluated by an IEA/UNU-WIDER committee.
