Professor Finn Tarp met International Relations Masters students from the University of Helsinki and University of Tampere


The students and Professor Tuomas Forsberg visited UNU-WIDER offices in Helsinki on 4 March 2016 to hear about the history and work of UNU-WIDER, along with the role of the institute within the UN system.

Finn Tarp delivered a presentation which gave the students a comprehensive overview of recent UNU-WIDER projects which included ReCom, DUCC, WIID and GAPP and their role in helping developing countries to create meaningful evidence-based policies.

Throughout the presentation, Professor Tarp emphasized on the need for collaboration between Nordic institutions to tackle issues related to international development and UNU-WIDER’s interest in increasing interaction with Finnish society.

The meeting was concluded by a discussion where the students discussed their thoughts and doubts related to foreign aid, economics and development with Professor Tarp.

After the meeting the students were invited to visit UNU-WIDER premises and were introduced to some of the institute’s publications.
