Alan Roe | Chair
Alan Roe has worked for some 50 years as an academic economist and as a policy adviser. He has held academic posts at Dar es Salaam, Cambridge, Washington University, St Louis and for many years at the University of Warwick. In 1994 he was appointed Principal Economist at the World Bank as Country Economist for Ukraine. In retirement he has worked for Oxford Policy Management and also UNU WIDER where he has jointly led recent work on Extractive Industries and lower income countries.
Steve Kayizzi-Mugerwa | Presenter
Steve Kayizzi-Mugerwa is Director in the Development and Research Department at African Development Bank. He was associated with the International Monetary Fund’s Independent Evaluation Office in Washington, D.C.
During 2000-2001 he directed the project on Institutional Capabilities, Reform Ownership, and Development in sub-Saharan Africa at the United Nations World Institute for Development Economics Research.
Andrew Mwaba | Presenter
Andrew Mwaba is an Economist and a Director at Kuyuma Development Limited, a consulting and advisory firm in Lusaka. He was previously the Country Manager for the African Development Bank in Malawi.
Prior to that role he worked as Advisor to the Vice President, Manager Operations Policy, and Lead Economist. He joined the AfDB in 1987 under the YP Program, after serving as an Economist in the Ministry of Agriculture in Zambia. Andrew holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Zambia and graduate degrees from the Ohio State University, Columbia University, and the University of Manchester.
Magnus Ericsson | Presenter
Magnus Ericsson is a veteran observer and analyst of global mining, his work going back to the early 1970s. His recent research focuses on the structure of global mining, the possibility of change in the behaviour and perception of the industry and the role of China in global metal supply.
He is co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the scientific publication Mineral Economics – Raw Materials Report. He works for Luleå University of Technology and RMG Consulting.
Giovanna Marcolongo | Presenter
Giovanna Marcolongo is a postdoctoral Fellow at the CLEAN (Crime and Law Economic Analysis) unit at Bocconi University where she works on topics on crime economics and political economy.
Her recent research has focused on the participation of organized crime in the legal economy and on the role of shell companies in tax havens as facilitators of corruption. She completed her PhD in Economics at Boston University in 2020.
