Growth and social welfare - an interview with Amartya Sen

Amartya Sen discusses the issue of growth and social welfare. He asserts that growth is valued not for itself but as an instrument for human beings to enable them to do those things that they care about. It is also closely related to social welfare. Aspects such as education and healthcare are important in improving the quality of human life which impacts the capability of human beings to better serve their demands as individual persons as well as the society at large. Ultimately, he states, economic growth is for a purpose. which is to improve the quality of human life.
