Regional Integration and Mining Value Chains - an interview with Judith Fessehaie
Judith Fessehaie of the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED) outlines the research on regional mining value chains, focussed on her work in Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Fessehaie also argues that a simplistic reading of the “resource curse” does not do justice to the possibilities for development of institutions and human capital in the mining sector.
The research will continue to examine how mining contributes to regional industrialization, better understanding of the regional value chain, economic growth and development in the region. It is also intended that the research will help policymakers to formulate relevant developmental approaches.
