Tax administrative data work presented at Addis Tax Initiative East Africa follow-up meeting

Amina Ebrahim, UNU-WIDER Research Fellow, presents and runs a training at the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) East Africa regional follow-up technical meeting on tax expenditures in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 6-8 December 2023. The regional meeting is organized by ATI in collaboration with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), the Council on Economic Policies (CEP) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS).

Amina Ebrahim is presenting in two sessions: at the Data requirements for tax expenditure estimation and evaluation session, and at the Ex-post evaluation of tax expenditures session, where she presents a microsimulation example of a tax expenditure evaluation. In addition to this she runs a training at the second session on ex-post evaluation of tax expenditures, teaching advanced evaluation methodology.

The objective of the meeting is to provide a platform for tax officers, policymakers, experts, researchers, and other key stakeholders from East African countries in the context of the ATI to exchange with regional partners and international experts on the estimation, reporting, and evaluation of tax expenditures.

This meeting is one in a series of regional workshops organised by ATI, CEP and IDOS.

The presentation is part of UNU-WIDER's Building up efficient and fair tax systems – lessons based on administrative tax data project, which is one workstream under UNU-WIDER's programme on Domestic Revenue Mobilization (DRM). The DRM programme is financed by the Norwegian development co-operation agency Norad.
